Salton Sea State Recreation Area

Located at 100-0225 State Park Road in North Shore, CA., is open year round, 24 hours per day. The park offers tent camping, full RV hook-ups, a Visitor Center, Camp Store, Kayak Rentals.

The Salton Sea State Recreation Area is located along the northeastern edge of the Salton Sea which is also one of the world’s most important winter stops for birds traveling the Pacific Flyway. The Recreation Area is a birdwatcher’s delight. Birds begin arriving by the tens of thousands in October. By January there are more than 400 species of migrating birds clouding the skies. By May most of them have continued to their ultimate destinations, but while there, they make use of the Salton Sea’s rich offerings, the birds are an unforgettable sight.

The Salton Sea State Recreation Area stretches for 14 miles along the northeastern and eastern shore of the Sea. The park offers five campgrounds for the publics’ enjoyment: Headquarters Area with complete hook-ups, New Camp and Mecca Beach campgrounds with tent and RV sites (some with electricity and water hook-ups), Corvina Beach and Salt Creek are primitive camping areas that accommodate both RVers and Tent campers.

The Visitor Center is in the Headquarters camping area which also hosts ramada shaded picnic tables with barbeques and easy beach access. Beach access is readily available at the other campgrounds as well.

There are gifts available in the gift shop and an abundance of information about the region. The friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers can help you discover the wonders of the Salton Sea. If you are new to the area, or have been here before, the Visitor Center is a great stop on your trip to learn about what this area has to offer. There are maps and pamphlets available to help you discover the local attractions.

The Salton Sea State Recreation Area is by far the best place to access and view the beautiful Salton Sea with the Santa Rosa mountains creating a majestic backdrop for our visitors.

Camping at the Salton Sea

Salton Sea State Recreation Area has several campgrounds for many styles of camping. The RV sites come with a barbecue grill, picnic table and are equipped with water, power, and sewer connections. The tent sites have a fire ring, shade ramada and a picnic table. Showers are nearby. Camping is a great way to experience the Salton Sea. Enjoy the beautiful sunsets after a day of outdoor adventures. Relax and enjoy nature by viewing the many species of birds that call this area home.

The park offers camping and picnic areas, walking trails, shoreline access, and a visitor center.  You can kayak on the Salton Sea, bring your own kayak.
